+ Priority Re-enrollment by 4/30

April 21, 2014

Dear Families,

We hope that you had a celebratory Passover Holiday and refreshing Spring Break. Passover is also considered the beginning of a New Year and as we reflect on our second year as a school and congregation, we are grateful for the community we are building and honored that you have placed your faith in us to guide your children’s Jewish education.

Before the Passover break, we sent a series of emails about our vision for next year. This letter captures the essence of those emails and in particular, we wanted to bring your attention to the priority re-enrollment deadline that is on April 30, 2014.

Welcome Christina Broussard, MA, Tamid’s new Director of Education
Christina Broussard joins Tamid as our first Director of Education. She comes to Tamid from Temple B’nai Jeshrun in Short Hills, NJ, and prior to that was the Youth Director at Temple Israel in Boston. She holds Master’s Degrees in Jewish Education and Organizational Management and will be working closely with our faculty and rabbis to help guide our school and our students.

New Classes for 6th, 7th, and High School grades
Please see the attachment that explains our grade level options for next year. All 6th graders will begin the Pre-B’nai Mitzvah class and all 7th graders will enroll in the B’nai Mitzvah program. In the past, these grades were combined. Hebrew High is our post B’nai Mitzvah program that will meet one evening per week from 6:00 to 7:30 PM and include dinner.

Class Size – small and intimate
After two pilot years, we have decided that 8 students per class is the right number for our teaching model. Most of our classes had 6-8 children but a few were larger during our pilot years. For the best learning experience with respect to class time, quality of instruction, and physical constraints, we are limiting each class to 8 students next year.

Locations
We intend to offer classes in our current locations for 1st – 4th graders (Tribeca, Leman, Battery Park City, and West Village) as long as each location has a minimum of six students per class.  All 5th – 11th grade classes will be held at Tamid in Tribeca.

2014-15 Schedule
Prior to June 15th, we will announce the days, times, and locations for each section next year. We imagine that it will be very similar to this year, and to our best ability, every family will be able to choose the right day and time that works for their child’s schedule and to be with Tamid friends.

Jewish Journey Project and Tamid in partnership
Two years ago, the JCC In Manhattan began a Hebrew School alternative for 3rd-7th graders called the Jewish Journey Project (JJP). We are proud to partner with JJP and any student wishing to participate in JJP can take classes downtown on Thursdays and/or Sundays OR on the Upper West side six days per week. Learn more:tamidnyc.org/jjp

New Student Open House
Prospective members and students are invited to attend an Open House on May 5th at 6 PM and/or May 22nd at 8:45 AM at Tamid. If you know of interested families, please share this information with them and ask them to contact the office.

School Re-enrollment Timeline
We offer priority re-enrollment during the month of April for our current families for two reasons. First, it’s a cost savings to enroll for next year based on the current year’s tuition and membership rates. New levels begin onJune 1st. Secondly, with our new limit on eight children per class, current members can guarantee their spot in the school.

April 1-30: Priority Re-enrollment for Current Families at 2013-14 rates
May 1-31: New Enrollment at 2013-14 rates
June 1st: Rates increase to 2014-15 levels

Tuition and Registration
Please visit the website for tuition levels and the on-line registration link. In order to manage our growth and to maintain our personal approach, we are only admitting twenty new students into the program in 2014-15.
