About

Neighbors, friends, visitors – a special and warm welcome to Tamid!

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Tamid! Tamid is the Hebrew word for Eternal/Continuous/Ongoing and we are a 21st Century Synagogue in a part of New York City that is creative, artistic, and alive with possibility – and you are welcome and invited to join us.

We opened the doors of our new synagogue in May, 2012 with the mission build a progressive spiritual, educational, and cultural Jewish home for Jewish, interfaith, dual-faith, straight, LGBT, and secular individuals and families downtown.

At Tamid, “welcome” is a spiritual practice and we invite you to join us for our next community gathering as our guest. Our vibrant Hebrew School meets weekly for children ages 5-18 in Lower Manhattan, our teen programs meet one Saturday night per month, and we gather regularly for shabbat and holidays. Tamid Arts, our Book Club, PJ Library, and adult learning options throughout offer people and families of all ages a place to call Tamid their downtown Jewish home.

Tamid is an independent synagogue and we observe a new approach to Judaism which we call “Positive Judaism.” Our community is focused on celebrating the best in Jewish life today for everyone and all backgrounds.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family to Tamid!
