Tamid U – College

College is major transition where young people face complex questions about their personal, political, and religious identity. Tamid makes sure that we do our part to stay in touch with our college kids and be their Jewish anchor as they sail through college and beyond. Tamid U supports our college students throughout their university years in four important ways.

  1. We send care packages during the High Holidays, Hanukkah, and Passover.
  2. We help make connections for internships and jobs with the incredibly diverse and successful adult members at Tamid
  3. We celebrate you each year in June at the Tamid Alumni Shabbat.
  4. We livestream Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur to your dorm rooms and we’ll cover the costs for you and your friends to have a holiday meal together.

In return, we ask that you be part of our network of college kids on campus that will host upcoming High School kids from Tamid during their college tours.

Please keep the Tamid office up to date with your on-campus address so we can mail you fun holiday packages and stay in touch with you during the year. We love you!

(Letter to Tamid from Rabbi Darren on May 9, 2018)

Dear Tamid,

We’re going to college!

I’m delighted to announce the next major initiative for our community, “Tamid U.” College is a critical stage in a person’s life and Tamid is gearing up to support our college kids. We have students that started with us in Hebrew School, spent four years participating in the Downtown Hunger Action Project, and now are off to college – mazel tov! We’re so proud of you and we loved celebrating your accomplishments last Friday night.

As I mentioned from the pulpit, it’s time for you college students to “Lech Lecha” — to go forth! And while you are growing socially and intellectually, we’re going to help support your journey. We’re going to send you care packages during the High Holidays, Hanukkah, and Passover. We’re going to help you make connections for internships and jobs with the incredibly diverse and successful adult members at Tamid. And we’re going to celebrate you each year in June at the Tamid Alumni Shabbat.

Yes, I did promise to take you and your friends at college out to dinner for the holidays. Just livestream with us from our Chapel to your dorm rooms on Rosh Hashanah and/or Yom Kippur and I’ll pick up the tab. We’ll send you information in the Fall.

High School kids at Tamid – we’re also thinking about your college prep. We’re creating a network of Tamid college kids on campus that will host you during your college tours. Next November, we’ll have a college admissions expert come speak to you and your parents about the best practices for the admissions process. Stay tuned.

Though we are just in our seventh year at Tamid, we are creating a legacy congregation to hold you and your families at every stage in your lives. College in particular is major transition where young people face complex questions about their personal, political, and religious identity. So, we’re going to make sure that we do our part to stay in touch with our college kids and be their Jewish anchor as they sail through college and beyond.

Thank you to our members Jennifer Baum and Leslie Chasen for spearheading this initiative and for guiding our young people to great places in their lives. Over the summer, we’ll be in touch with our families with college students and ways for all of you to be involved in Tamid U.

For now, wishing you and our college students many blessings and good wishes. May you go from strength to strength.

Darren
