9/11 Memorial Gathering

September 11, 2026 marks the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. For the Jewish community, this night is also Erev Rosh Hashanah, the start of a new Jewish year. In partnership with UJA Federation of New York, Tamid, The Downtown Synagogue, welcomes Jewish 9/11 Families and Friends for an evening of music, prayer, fellowship, and reflection.

Joseph C. Daniels, former Founding CEO of the National September 11th Memorial & Museum, will speak about the significance of this anniversary and share his own reflections on this moment in history. The evening will include a personal tribute to the Jewish fallen, the reading of their names, and prayers for the Jewish New Year led by Rabbi Darren Levine, Chesney Polis, and members of the Tamid Community.

This marks the first ever gathering for Jewish 9/11 families and friends which will take place at the 9/11 Chapel. Located less than 100 yards from the World Trade Center site, this hall became known as “The Little Chapel That Stood” after it survived the collapse of the Twin Towers. In the tragic aftermath of 9/11, this Chapel became a haven for rescue and recovery workers at Ground Zero. More than 5,000 volunteers worked long hours at the church, cleaning, serving hot meals, and providing comfort to all who came to the church for rest and refuge.

Founded in 2012, The Tamid Community is the Resident Synagogue of the 9/11 Chapel and serves individuals and families living in Lower Manhattan.

Jewish 9/11 families and friends are asked to RSVP before September 4, 2026 to attend and to have your loved one remembered. Space is limited and for security reasons, all attendees must be approved on or before September 7th. Please forward this information to any Jewish 9/11 families.
